Demon Eyes part 2"Where are we going?" Micah said two minutes into the car ride. His whole back was sweating from the 98 degrees outside. Even after the sun went down, the car stayed like a broiler. "A church near downtown," she said, lighting her cigarette in the dashboard lighter. She takes a drag and cracks the window. He always gets nervous when she smokes while driving. The summer air from the window crack is humid, but the breeze helps cool the car. Twenty minutes later they pull into the parking lot of a newly built protestant church. There aren't any bars on the windows. Just clear, thin glass separating her from the dangerous outside world. Lying in bed at night, she wishes there were bars; thick, steal protecting her from the night. She keeps watch outside the window until she drifts off to sleep.
